3/30/1949New Union of Greater Rajasthan was ceremonially inaugurated by Patel when the existing Union of Rajasthan was joined by four premier states of Bikaner, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Hiralal Shastri became its first Chief Minister.
11/23/1926Satya Sai Baba, Hindu universalist renaissance charismatic guru, educationalist and worker of miracles, was born.
6/29/2000The Election Commission derecognises seven regional parties in some states -- Samata Party in Haryana, Shiv Sena in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and the RJD in Manipur, NTR-Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, the Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya) in Chandigarh, the United Minority Front in Assam and the Haryana Vikas Party in Haryana-- These will remain registered but unrecognised parties.

2/25/1999The curtains came down on the fifth National Games. Manipur won the overall championship while swimmers Nisha Millet of Karnataka and Sebastian Xavier of Kerala were adjudged the best sportswoman and sportsman respectively.
9/10/1920Subramhanyam Bharti, national poet in Tamil language, orator, author, editor, philosopher and revolutionary, passed away.
5/31/1973Mohan Kumaramangalam, Central Minister, died in an air crash near Delhi.
3/15/1901Guru Hanuman was born at Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. He was the pioneer and contributor of wrestling in India. He was bestowed with the Padamshri in 1983. His pupil Satpal and Kartar Singh won Gold Medals in Asian Games.
4/15/1946The Kangla Tongbi war memorial built for 221 members Advance Base Depot, who laid down their lives to repulse several waves of Japanese attacks, was erected near a village named Kangla Tongbi at Mile 8 on the Imphal - Dimapur road. It was originally erected from local stone and the main epitaph displayed above is of black Naga stone.
