7/16/1909	Aruna Asaf Ali, social worker and freedom fighter, was born at Kalka in Haryana.
5/2/1953	40 persons were reported losing their lives today in the first crash of a jet airliner in commercial service. The jetliner, a British-built Comet, plunged to earth in a violent storm just a few minutes after taking off from Calcutta. It was carrying a party of rubber and tin operators from Malaya to England. There were no survivors. Two Comets have crashed before, one last October and one in March, but neither was carrying passengers.

11/28/1990	Union Cabinet approves re-induction of Airbus A-320 in the domestic sector.
12/19/1978	The Lok Sabha expels Indira Gandhi from the House and sentences her to imprisonment for a term lasting its prorogation. She was released from jail on December 26.
8/15/1947	The Defence department becomes the Ministry of Defence under a Cabinet Minister. Each service was placed under its own Commander-in-Chief. Under the Constitution, the supreme command of the Armed Forces was vested with the President.
1/11/1859	Lord Curzon, Governor General and Viceroy, was born.
12/7/1989	Hemananda Biswal sworn in as Orissa Chief Minister.
