Historical Event on 5/11/1998

Three momentous events took place on the day that did the nation proud. Firstly, three underground nuclear tests at Pokhran Range in Rajasthan, which included a hydrogen bomb, were tested; secondly, the successful test firing of the 'Trishul Missile' and thirdly, the maiden Certification test flight of 'Hansa-3', the first-all Composite indigenous two seater aircraft.

1/9/1995Manipur Assembly removes Dr.H. Borobabu (Speaker) and suspends his membership until state election.
10/16/1997Queen Elizabeth visits Kalakshetra where she witnesses Bharatanatyam show and film shooting at MGR Film City, Taramani in Chennai. She also goes to Kancheepuram and Sriperumbudur (Rajiv Gandhi memorial).
5/22/1997At least 40 persons are killed and over 300 injured in an earthquake which hit Jabalpur city.
2/1/1929Jyotirbhaskaracharya Jayant Salgaonkar was born.
7/20/1898Krishna Kanta Handique, great linguist, educationist, principal of J.B. College and Padma Bhushan awardee, was born at Jorhat.
12/22/1975Vasant Krishna Desai, famous music director, died.
10/26/1991Anantrao Bhalerao, freedom fighter, journalist and editor of daily newspaper 'Marathwada', died.
9/3/1767Colonel Smith was defeated in the battle of Changama that took place between the combined forces of Nizam and Hyder Ali and the British army. This was the first war of Mysore. The British concluded a humiliating peace with Hyder Ali of Mysore.
7/23/1904The Great Indian Peninsula Railway started First Class restaurant cars on its mail trains.
