Govind Ballabh Pant was born in village Khunt, Almora District, U.P. He served eight years as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He was as outstanding parliamentary figure of his days. He was awarded with Bharat Ratna in 1959.

His formulae and therorems, for instance the ""Cramer-Rao inequality"", ""The Fisher-Rao theorem"" and ""Rao-Black Wellistaion"" are now part of any standard textbook of statistics. For his significant contributions, Rao received the S. S. Bhatnagar Award, the Meghnad Saha Medal and the Guy medal. |
